Emma’s Story

12-Year-Old Female with Double Major Curve

Left to right: Initial x-ray, in-brace x-ray taken 6 weeks after brace fitted, pre-treatment posture, one year post-treatment posture.

Patient

This 12-year-old girl presented with the onset of Adolescent Idiopathic Scoliosis (AIS) during early puberty. Radiographs identified a double major curve, measuring 31° thoracic and 34° lumbar.

Her clinical presentation included a right pelvic shift, raised right shoulder, and noticeable waist asymmetry.

Treatment

She was fitted with a custom Gensingen Brace to address both structural curves. Initial in-brace radiographs showed strong correction to 14° thoracic and 9° lumbar.

Brace treatment has continued throughout her growth phase to support spinal alignment and postural balance.

Outcome

An out-of-brace x-ray taken after one year demonstrated curve reduction to 27° thoracic and 25° lumbar.

Clinically, improved symmetry is now visible across the pelvis, waist, and shoulders, reflecting both structural and postural improvement. Treatment remains ongoing to maintain and optimise correction during continued growth.
