Scoliosis Treatment for Adolescents

The Process

We champion the Cheneau-Gensingen (or GBW) brace for childhood scoliosis which has been developed more than standard back braces to improve comfort and correction by implementing specific corrective movements derived from the original Schroth method. This brace applies specific corrective forces to the spine to correct deformity: find out how our process works.

Fitting the Brace

We are with you every step of the way. Once you decide to move forward with a Gensingen brace, first your child will need to attend a brace fitting appointment which takes between 1 and a half to 2 hours. The tailored scoliosis brace then takes 7 – 10 days to manufacture. We then work with you to make adjustments to ensure optimum comfort and function for your child.

Brace Management

After the fitting, a programme will need to be followed which will involve days on and off of wearing the brace, helping your child get used to wearing it. This will also increase their comfort and ongoing compliance. The brace treatment includes a series of appointments, which are essential to the management of your child’s scoliosis treatment. My approach is based on rigorous research, and my practice is evidence driven. I care passionately about supporting those with natural curvatures of the spine, scoliosis of the neck and back and scoliosis disability.

I work alongside a number of practitioners and therapists to ensure that I am able to fully support my patients, both physically and mentally. Talk to me about how to straighten the spine with the right treatment and care.

Before and After Scoliosis Treatment

This is an example of curve reduction in an early onset scoliosis case.

This case was treated with a Gensingen brace full time initially, then reduced to part time after 1 year.

The patient wore a brace for 4 years in total and has now been discharged from brace treatment completely.
